Costa Rica Tropical Rainforest

First Day–Arrival in San Josè
Arrival and self-managed transfer (directions in road book) from San Josè airport. Accommodation in Hotel 3 star, double room with breakfast in San Josè – any time left on hand. Free dinner and overnight stay.

Second, Third and Fourth Days–Tortuguero Park
On the morning of the second day, after breakfast, you can spend the morning on a self-guided tour of the city with the help of your roadbook, or, on request, take a guided sightseeing tour. In the afternoon you will be taken from your hotel and accompanied, in a convenient van, for the short journey (44 miles) to the lodge within the Tortuguero Park. Once settled in your double room, the first of the exciting guided hikes that await you in these two days in the park, is waiting for you. Excursions are included, as well as half board at the lodge.

Fifth and Sixth Days–The lake and the Arenal volcano
Morning of the fifth day. Breakfast and return transfer to San Josè, we will rent the car and transfer to the lodge on Lake Arenal (187 miles, 3 hours and 20 minutes). Arrival in the afternoon and accommodation in double room with breakfast. Time available, dinner and overnight stay. On the sixth day after breakfast, you will be taken to the hotel for a guided tour of 8 hours,   by boat, on foot and on horseback, in Sierra Leona, the unspoiled rainforest on Lake Arenal. Accompanied by 2 expert guides, you will be able to spot many bird species, including the quetzal. Three species of monkeys abound in this region, and among them the screaming monkey is the most common. During the excursion you will taste an authentic Tico barbeque, a typical Costa Rican meal, cooked and served by native Ticos. For this excursion a normal / good physical condition is required. At the end, return to lodge, leisure and overnight stay.

Seventh, Eight, Ninth Days–Espadilla Beach
On the morning of the seventh day, after breakfast, transfer to the Pacific Coast at Espadilla Beach (162 miles, 4 hours). Arrival in the afternoon, accommodation in double room with breakfast. Possible free time. Dinner and overnight stay. Days dedicated to total relaxation on this beautiful beach. Those who prefer activities can choose from horse back riding, “banana boat” sailing, parasailing, surfing, trekking excursion to the nearby Manuel Antonio park.

Tenth Day–Parque Nacional de Los Quetzales
Morning – breakfast and transfer to the lodge in Los Quetzales park. Arrival late in the morning and accommodation in double with breakfast. Afternoon – canopy tour, ideal for beginners in the tropical rainforest.
At the end, return to lodge and overnight.

Eleventh Day–Bird-Watching, then San Josè
Very early, guided hike for two hours on foot in the rainforest for birdwatching, especially for the sight of the beautiful Quetzal, the colorful bird that gives the name to the park. On return, transfer to San Josè. Arrival in the early afternoon and accommodation in the same hotel on the way. Rest of the day available, then free dinner and overnight stay.

Twelfth Day– return flight
After having breakfast and enjoying any free time for a last-minute shopping, you will be transferred to San Jose International Airport, where you will give back your rental car and board the plane for your flight back.
