Tour to the West Coast of Canada and the North
Vancouver and the best of Alaska
Day 1: The West Coast
Upon your arrival at Vancouver International Airport, one of our representatives will welcome you and take you to your hotel. You will have the opportunity to take a small introductory tour of the city along the same road to the hotel. Enjoy dinner at your hotel or one of the restaurants along beautiful English Bay.
Day 2: Wonderful Vancouver!
The second day is devoted to visiting Vancouver, a beautiful city on the West Coast. Set out on a self-guided tour using your Road Book, or a guided tour upon request. Enjoy the main areas and attractions of Downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park Aquarium, Capilano Suspension Bridge & Hatchery (salmon hatchery) and West Vancouver parks – the giant trees of Lighthouse Park and Dundarave Beach with a picnic by the sea. If time permits, an optional guided visit to the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is available on request. Upon your return, enjoy dinner at a restaurant marked by the Road Book. Overnight stay at your hotel with breakfast.
Day 3: From Vancouver to Prince Rupert and Alaska
Note: departure to the Inside Passage of Alaska is scheduled on the same day as the flight from Vancouver. On certain dates, however, you will need to stay overnight in Prince Rupert and depart the next morning.
Today you will get to Prince Rupert by Le Reve House’s van, where you will embark on another sea adventure following the route of the Inside Passage of Alaska. Board the Alaskan Marine Highway ferries, which will take you all the way to Juneau. You will stay in a comfortable and spacious room with exterior views, and be able to view the rich wildlife of the region. The cruise will last about 1.5 days, and will allow you access to one of the most spectacular stretches of sea in the world, on a very comfortable and modern boat equipped with delicious restaurants much like a cruise ship.
You will arrive in Juneau in the morning (or evening) of the next day. Transfer to your hotel (breakfast included).
Day 4: Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier
Juneau, Alaska’s capital, is considered by locals to be the most beautiful city in the country: it’s also known by its nickname “little San Francisco”. Feel free to stroll through the central streets populated by old pubs, art galleries, cozy bars and sophisticated restaurants. Juneau is the departure point for various Alaskan activities, starting with an excursion to see the Mendenhall Glacier from the sky. Upon request, you can also canoe across Mendenhall Lake, and reach the front of the beautiful glacier. Afterwards, return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Gustavus and Glacier Bay
Today, you will take a flight to Gustavus: the gateway to Glacier Bay, known as the most important Alaskan glacier and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Then, you will embark on a beautiful cruise ship for your icy adventure. On board you will enjoy a tasty lunch while you sail under the famous glacier fronts and observe the spectacular fauna, including orcas, dolphins and sea lions. At the end of the tour, you will return to Gustavus and board your flight back to Juneau. From here, you will fly directly to Anchorage, where you will arrive in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay at the Crown Hotel or the Western Baranoff, breakfast included.
Day 6: Seward – Optional Mini Cruise to Kenai Fjords National Park
At 7am (if you have requested this excursion), you will take the bus to Seward, which will be the starting point for your tour of the Kenai Fjords National Park. Here, you will embark on a comfortable speedboat for a 140 km tour of the waters of the park. One of the most exciting eco-tourism experiences in North America, the abundance of scenery between the glaciers, and the incredible land and marine wildlife make for an unforgettable day. Experts of the region, who will explain the ethology and geology of the park, will guide you through the tour. During the cruise, a lunch will be served on board. Upon your return in the afternoon, you will take a coach bus for Anchorage, where you’ll arrive in the evening and stay overnight at a hotel (breakfast included).
Day 7: Transfer to Denali National Park
This morning, you will spend a few hours visiting the cool Northern town of Seward, and then go to the bus depot to depart for Denali. You will travel by coach bus, a convenient and spectacular way to reach the park. Relax and enjoy the beautiful views while sitting in the comfortable armchairs. You will arrive at Denali Park at 9pm and check in to your beautiful lodge, where you can rest up for tomorrow’s excursion (double room with breakfast included).
Day 8: Visit to Denali National Park (2 Options Available)
Today you will explore Denali National Park, the huge park of nearly 2.5 million hectares that surrounds Mount McKinley and is home to 39 species of mammals, including grizzlies, black bears, moose, bighorn sheep, wolves and wolverines. Here, there are 167 species of birds, 10 species of fish as well as approximately 650 species of flowering plants and about as many species of moss, lichen, mushrooms and seaweed. The Kantishna Wilderness Trails bus will depart very early from your lodge and will cross the park in almost all of its entirety. During the excursion, you will be served a snack, while lunch will be included at the Kantishna Roadhouse, where you will also have an opportunity to see a sled dog demonstration. You can then choose whether to take the same bus back, or take a scenic flight over the beautiful and vast Muldrov Glacier and Alaska Range. In only 55 minutes, you will find yourself back at your lodge for an afternoon of free time, dinner at your leisure and an overnight stay.
Day 9: Denali – Anchorage by Train (Special Option: GoldStar Dome)
Today, in the early afternoon, you will be transferred to Denali Depot to start your spectacular journey on the GoldStar Dome Train. With carriages specially built with large glass windows, you will be able to comfortably observe the wonderful nature of Alaska. Pay attention to the numerous animals that you can spot throughout the journey, including bears, elk, deer, wolves, swans and storks in flight. You will arrive at Anchorage at 8pm and will check in to the Crown Plaza or Westmark Anchorage hotel (breakfast included).
Day 10: The fishing bears of Katmai
Your last day in Alaska will be dedicated to bear-watching at Katmai National Park and Preserve, one of the world’s most important areas for the observation of these impressive and fascinating animals. Indifferent to the presence of humans (at a safe distance), these creatures feed on berries or salmon, depending on the season and location. You’ll reach Katmai by plane, and then fly to Kulik or King Salmon, where you’ll be transported via seaplane to the best location for viewing. After undergoing a briefing on the bears by the park rangers, you will be free to wander safely within the park, following fixed paths linking the various locations. In the evening, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at your the hotel.
*Option two for Day 10: Katmai
On request, you can opt for a 1-night stay at a lodge in the park instead of a day trip.
Day 11: Return Flight
After a breakfast, you’ll be transferred by shuttle to the airport in Anchorage for your return flight.
